The Road to Hell
The road out of Bolivia’s capital, La Paz, climbs five kilometres above sea level before pitching downward like a terrifying roller-coaster ride. A statue of Christ stands here, and drivers pull into the gravel lay-by to make offerings, praying that they’ll make it down. Others—indigenous people—crack open a beer, pouring it onto the road to beseech the goddess Pachamama for safe passage.

Shanghai Knights
It’s not often I spill out of a nightclub before the F1 drivers. Usually on a Sunday night, with 56 laps having taken their toll, a couple of vodkas knock the racers out by 2:00 a.m. But at 4:00 a.m., when I left Shanghai’s fashionable M1NT club (which features shark tanks beside the bar — very F1!), Lewis Hamilton was still going strong, toasting one of the best races of his life.
